This is the next phase in DUC's multi-year commitment to deliver science-based habitat conservation projects to achieve NAWMP goals in the BC-PBHJV and the CIJV. This effort will include the replacement and management of aging water control infrastructure, and the securement of 24 acres via fee simple acquisition. Project partners will also work together to enhance 390 acres. Priority bird habitat will be impacted by stewardship activities on 2,150 acres and DUC will manage 419,910 acres of previously secured habitat.

Project activities will secure 530 acres via fee simple title acquisition and 2,727 acres in conservation agreements, enhance 1,472 acres, influence through stewardship activities 251,000 acres, and manage the 1,102,224 acres of habitat previously secured.

This is the next step in DUC's multi-year commitment to achieve the goals and objectives of the PHJV under NAWMP. The proposed program directly supports the 2013-2020 PHJV Implementation Plan. It will result in 9,809 secured acres and 9,919 enhanced acres of wetlands and associated upland habitat, will influence another 3,700,000 acres through stewardship activities, and will manage 3,668,859 previously protected acres. DUC will further these efforts through evaluation, communications and endowment activities.

Under the framework of PHJV implementation plans, this project will result in permanent protection of 585 acres of waterfowl breeding habitat in Manitoba. Project activities will also include restoration of 110 acres of previously drained wetlands, making new habitat available for breeding activity. These restored acres will also be protected via conservation agreements for a minimum of 10 years. Management activities such as compliance monitoring and hen house maintenance will occur on 115,400 previously secured acres.

Project activities will result in securement of 80 acres in fee title, enhancement of 26 acres, and management of 45,099 previously secured acres of migratory bird habitat in the Pacific Birds Habitat Joint Venture (PHBJV) and the Canadian Intermountain Joint Venture (CIJV), within the province of British Columbia. PBHJV activities will benefit Common Loon, White-winged Scoter, American Wigeon and Bufflehead. Within the CIJV, activities will benefit several species of breeding waterfowl, including Barrow’s Goldeneye, Hooded Merganser and Green-winged Teal.

This project is a continuation of NCC's multi-year commitment to the PHJV’s contribution to the North American Waterfowl Management Plan. Accomplishments will include permanent securement of 880 acres of quality migratory bird habitat via fee simple acquisition. NCC will also manage 103,532 acres of habitat secured in previous NAWCA projects. Project activities will benefit breeding waterfowl and will reduce the risk of habitat loss to conversion.

Project activities will result in securement of 2,975 acres, enhancement of 400 acres, management of 71,850 acres previously secured, and stewardship activities of 550 acres of migratory bird habitat in Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic provinces of Canada. A number of EHJV migratory waterfowl species such as Common Eider, American Black Duck, Mallard, Harlequin Duck, Canada Goose, Long-tailed Duck, and Barrow’s Goldeneye will benefit from the protection and enhancement activities of this project.
